In a futuristic Martian society where women are trapped in the house, believing they are too delicate to leave, one woman discovers the truth through a secret underground rebellion of space pinups who hack the Home Billboard screens in her home. Inwives will make its debut at GradEx 110 before joining the Embreate lineup of sci-fi shorts on YouTube and Instagram.
“Inwives is a feminist labour of love inspired by the (retro-)futurist cartoons of the mid-century that I watched growing up. I took on the themes of Orwell's 1984, Victorian-era type myths about the female body, and my loathing for my parents' Amazon Echo and crafted a story that confronts the realities of the 1960s' sexism and women's rights movements. Inwives uses in-home advertisements as propaganda, and I was very deliberate in whose voices and faces were to be portrayed in this short as active characters.”
