An approach to Compact and Co-op Living Systems

“This thesis explores the pressing issues regarding micro-housing and its potential to transform co-op living systems for multi-generational, middle-to-low-income households. Central to this investigation is the role of the community in redefining how residents engage with both shared and private spaces at an accessible and affordable rate. While addressing the stigmas of compact living, the design intends to foster sustainable, adaptable, and affordable solutions that balance communal integration and personal autonomy. The proposed small-scale residential community emphasizes collective ownership and shared responsibility, reimagining spatial limitations to promote deeper social connections and mutual support. By prioritizing modular, habitable units and enhancing opportunities for social interaction, this thesis aims to create a model for urban living that strengthens community bonds while addressing economic and environmental challenges.”
