Mixed Media
“One of my favourite parts of having been an OCAD U student was the access to many different fabrication studios. This thesis collection is dedicated to showcasing the love I have for mixed media fabrication. Thematically, alien and UFO folklore has always held a special place in my heart, so it felt appropriate to explore this theme in depth through this body of work. This thesis is very much my brain baby and I'm so excited to be sharing this collection at GradEx 107. ”
Aleena Derohanian is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersection of alien and UFO folklore, pop culture, and the sublime. Her work style can be identified through her use of bright colours, organic forms, and an amalgam of materials. With a background in jewellery and silversmithing, Derohanian expertly incorporates semi precious metals and stones into her mixed media sculptures. The current direction of her work is exploring lamps and lighting fixtures in her unique aesthetic.
