Meet the Designer

aka. token, Material Art and Design - Textiles

“Through the use of natural fibres, acidic colours, and playful forms, "token" is attempting to emulate feelings of blurry memories and childhood nostalgia. Meant as a diary of awkward adolescent years spent daydreaming of the future, "token" is about cherishing the kitsch state of growing up, demonstrating that growth and change is not just part of adolescence, but something we continue to do our whole life. ”

Profile Picture
Kennedy is a Toronto-based knitwear designer, textile dyer, and pattern drafter. After graduating from George Brown College in 2020 with a diploma in fashion construction and design, Kennedy transferred to OCAD University's material art and design program with a focus on textiles. Combining her technical drafting skills with playfully conceptual themes, Kennedy chose to develop a knitwear collection as part of her final thesis project. Inspired by kitsch aesthetics and the philosophical concept of aura, her thesis collection is meant to play with the art of low brow. Seeped in irony and humour, Kennedy's designs are attempting to materialize moments that have been forgotten. Never taking herself too seriously, Kennedy hopes her work evokes feelings of joy and comfort in the wearers of her garments.
