“In my artistic practice, I am deeply mindful of the land on which I live and work, which is situated within the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Wendat, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. I acknowledge the enduring presence and stewardship of Indigenous peoples on this land, and I am committed to honoring their ongoing connection to this territory.Drawing inspiration from a diverse array of themes including love, belonging, kinship, the post-human condition, and environmental consciousness, my artistic practice contextualizes these narratives within the framework of global historical and cultural dynamics. Grounded in a post-humanist and feminist framework, my inherently interdisciplinary approach reflects a personal resolution and assertion of my place in the world. Through the language of psyche, myth, and culturally specific symbols, I expressively capture the essence of my lived experiences, connecting them to the universal human condition. My artistic practice serves as a reflective mirror of contemporary existence, aiming to stimulate contemplation on individual roles within the collective psyche.By delving into the intersections of identity, culture, environment, and social dynamics, I weave together a comprehensive narrative that resonates with diverse audiences. Embracing the intricacies of both my own journey and those of others, I strive to foster understanding and empathy among my viewers. This journey of introspection encourages reflection on one's place within the intricate tapestry of existence, illuminating the interplay between personal experiences and broader societal influences.”
Based in Tkaronto (Toronto), Farzaneh Moallef, an interdisciplinary visual artist, is deeply influenced by the rich traditions of pottery in Iran, which feature a seven-thousand-year-old pottery tradition alongside its poetic and artistic heritage. Her artistic journey commenced with life drawing classes at the Kamal-ol-Molk Academy of Art and further developed at the Niavaran Academy of Art. Early influences from her mother, a mixed-media artist and classical painter, laid the foundation for her creative path. Later, she continued her artistic exploration at the Faculté de Lettres in Nancy, France, where she immersed herself in the works of various French painters and writers. Visits to renowned museums like the Louvre and Musée d'Orsay in Paris enriched her understanding of art history and exposed her to the works of Masters, including French post-impressionists Henri Rousseau and Paul Gauguin, who left a lasting impression on her artistic sensibilities. Today, she integrates these historical influences with contemporary perspectives, infusing her work with innovation and provocation. Farzaneh has exhibited both locally and internationally.
