“My work lives in the tension between precision and abandon, between the delicate control of fine detail and the raw immediacy of gesture. It’s a layered exploration of identity, diaspora, and duality, with two versions of myself speaking in one voice.”

I, an Iranian-Canadian woman, approach my practice as an ongoing attempt to reconcile cultural dualities while confronting the social limits and expectations placed on women in both Middle Eastern and Western societies. This process reflects the broader experience of diaspora, where identity is constantly negotiated across multiple contexts. These layered negotiations—cultural, personal, and gendered—form the core of my thesis project, an exploration of language, identity, and self-representation. After immigrating to Canada, I completed high school while still unfamiliar with English. My first class was French, taught entirely in a language I could barely understand. I had to learn a new language through another and somehow earned a 98. That moment shaped my resilience and sparked a lasting fascination with language, translation, and the spaces where meaning is either lost or unexpectedly revealed. I was granted immediate entry into the Drawing and Painting program at OCAD University and have since exhibited in Germany (Berlin), Italy (Venezia), and Canada (Toronto). I am a native Farsi speaker and fluent in English.
