Printmaking and Textiles
“Experimenting with materiality and how I can express the shifting nature of memory in printmaking, it is often intersected with my textile practice. My overall practice revolves around the process as much as it weighs on the final piece. From the importance of materials such as the thread I use for my knitted lace, to choices of cross stitching on my weaving and intricate written text in etching, are all reflections of passed down stories and knowledge from grandparents/relatives through my parents.”

Lea Ovčina is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of printmaking and textiles processes. The visual concepts in her art are informed by the natural world and themes of memory in its’ various manifestations. Emphasizing our relationships with other people and the objects or environments we surround ourselves with, as they become reflections of our inner values. As a direct result of the combination of her Bosnian heritage combined with growing up in Austria and Canada, questions of place and belonging that can’t be answered in one singular way, are explored through her art.
