“We lay our scene in a domestic interior reminiscent of those from another time, where decorative patterns of green foliage line the walls and over which hangs a small collection of landscape paintings. Together they encapsulate the memories and places that have been lost along the way, as well as those in the process of being lost presently. Through the process of retracing places and moments in time from my life, the tangible and intangible forms of landscapes situated within Scarborough are explored in tandem to the feelings and experiences associated with them, which have been lost along with the places themselves. These landscapes are depicted through oil paintings which take inspiration from the style and ambience of European Romantic landscape paintings. While the soft brushstrokes of the paintings contrast with the hand-drawn wallpaper it is hung on, the coherent minimal palette maintains a final sense of visual unification. The wallpaper seeks to evoke personal history, memory and nostalgia, displayed through the pattern design, composed of Devil’s Ivy and Plumosa Ferns; meaningful symbols of interior elements of nature and people within my home, some lost and others still standing. As a whole, the wallpaper and paintings communicate a haunting display to formulate an environment commemorating these lost feelings and places of my past.”
