“Through my medium of soft pastel pencils, I create highly detailed portrait drawings, most recently working from family archival photographs that span multiple generations. My process is slow and intentional, reflecting the care I have for capturing the subjects and their stories. I'm drawn to the small details that give each photograph its charm and my medium is key in its capture. Soft pastels are known for their inherent delicacy, which aligns with the fragility and intimacy of archival images. I build up colour through layering one colour at a time, often using a single dominant hue as a filter across each portrait, responding directly to the feeling of the original image. As a collection, the work invites a closer and more deliberate pace of looking, where the time and labour reflected in my process draws attention to the subtle details and quiet presence of moments that would otherwise be quickly overlooked in their original form.”

Jasmine Huber (b. 2004 Burlington, Ontario) is a fine detail artist, specializing in soft pastel pencil drawings that captures the delicacy of portraiture.
