Fatma Juma is a Toronto-based photographer and current student at OCAD University, specializing in both digital and analog photography. Her technical expertise extends across post-production platforms such as Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, with a strong proficiency in producing both black-and-white and colour imagery. Fatma’s photographic journey began at the age of thirteen, when she first picked up a camera and later contributed her skills to her high school yearbook, capturing portraits and documenting school life.Over time, she has developed a distinctive artistic voice rooted in black-and-white portraiture and landscape photography. Her work explores deeply personal and universal themes, including sexuality, identity, body image, and mental health. Through her imagery, Fatma seeks to evoke raw emotion, creating work that unsettles, challenges, and compels viewers to look closer. As a visual storyteller, she excels in constructing strong narratives within her compositions, whether working with people or places. Fatma is equally skilled in studio environments, with a solid understanding of lighting, staging, and set design. Her creative adaptability allows her to merge her own artistic vision with client needs, maintaining both authenticity and professionalism. While she works independently with confidence, Fatma values collaboration and the opportunity to learn from other artists and industry professionals. Her long-term goals include establishing her own studio and exhibiting her work in gallery spaces. Currently, she is focused on gaining further experience through placement and mentorship opportunities that will continue to refine her craft and broaden her artistic practice.
