“The Earth is a square, and the universe is a circle. The death of a cow is a loss of life, a source of protein, one blip in the cycle, or a hassle to clean. The car is a Benz, a metal machine, a home, or a companion. Although our bodies literally decompose, the machine degrades, malfunctions, or falls apart. Airplanes are designed after birdwings, pigeons camouflage into the city, and their mutual mimicry exposes the everlasting cycle of relations. When I tilt my camera in Minecraft, I am not blinded; I am subject. When I look down, I am a man. When I pan, I see a world of Right Angles.”

Hayeon Song (b. 2003, Seoul) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Toronto. Working across sculpture, writing, durational installations, and drawing, her practice explores power play and intentional performance. She has exhibited in both commercial galleries and community-driven events, including at Gagné Contemporary and in the basement of Prehistoria.
