“Heirloom Blues is an exploration of what is passed down between mothers and daughters through generations in both a literal and metaphorical sense. Using watercolor, a medium historically viewed as a women's craft, Carlow Phillips created a series of paintings that explore grief, societal expectations of cisgender heteronormative womanhood, and inner strength through the lens of their own family history.”
