Experimental Animation
“Experimental artist, animator, and sound fanatic based in Toronto.”

Samuel Wasserman is an experimental artist, animator, and sound fanatic based in Toronto. His multi-disciplinary practice is firmly rooted in physical experimentation with a hint of scientific whimsy, wandering themes of organics, sci-fi, nuance, the inanimate, and underground nightlife. His work straddles a physical-digital interplay, but almost always occupies a place in material space. His 2024 embroidered short film 91 Thousand Unrelenting Stitches screened at the world’s 2 largest animation festivals, winning Best Canadian Student Animation at the Ottawa International Animation Festival in 2024 for its innovative fusion of traditional embroidery techniques and mesmerizing soundtrack and was recognized during a special screening at the Annecy International Animation Festival in 2025.Sam has adopted the alias Program Sam for much of his work in music and nightlife, an alias under which he organizes Art Show Near Me, a Toronto-based community platforming spaces for art and underground sound. Program music is instrumental music that carries some extra-musical meaning, some “program” of literary idea, legend, scenic description, or personal drama.
