“My thesis work explores two material approaches to documenting my life and experiences as a way of understanding myself. Through visual reproductions of categorized memories and illustrations that transform reality into fantastical scenes, I examine my life as a whole.”

Samantha Stott is a Toronto-based Filipina artist working in acrylic, ink and watercolour. With an attempt to document her life, she depicts playful narratives and her daily reality, exploring themes such as identity, relationships, substance experimentation, sex and sexuality, and her frequented environments. For her thesis, she uses painting to record and preserve fleeting moments. Merging reference photos, life observation, and childhood nostalgia, she uses humour to showcase the human psyche.
