STORYTELLING DRIVEN BY THE INTUITION OF THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE
“Cat’s Cradle youth Theatre explores the curious, accessible and imaginative nature that the performing arts are founded upon. While arts funding continues to decrease across Ontario, accessible opportunities for youth to find creative spaces to collaborate are vital. While existing theatres across Toronto cater exclusively to performance arts, Cat’s Cradle serves to encourage the process of design and highlight all creative stages of the performing arts. Endlessness is explored through the deconstruction of movement and fluidity. The modular exterior functions as a framework for the natural, human and technological environment–storytelling through lived experience. The forms’ use of transparency and translucency challenges the idea of accessibility to storytelling through light and shadow; to be seen and to be unseen. Contrastingly, the interior holds an unyielding nature through its acute and peculiar angles. The rigid vertical lines of the space encourages curiosity through the unknown, while exposing users to an experience driven by their own intuition. The interior circulation fosters uncertainty and discomfort of trusting oneself through unfamiliar space. ”
