Death is a transitionary period, not only for the person who passes but for those around them who will have to cope and live on without that person. The mausoleum is a space used throughout history to house the dead, and its threshold is a metaphorical doorway to the state after life. A death's head hawk-moth and its cocoon is used to signify the transitionary nature of death.
