In depicting the coin, I explore formal concerns with the subject of Western history (specifically an object of the Middle Ages), as access to understanding an underlying relationship between myself and Western thought. How ideas of value, and quantifying history are underlying truisms of what the coin represents for myself. The coin becomes an object of currency, and nationhood; themes I studied growing up through the Western education system, but developed an disattachment from. Further fixating on the sublime experience of viewing this object abstractly.
