Icon & Concept Model (Cultivated Encounters)

Environmental Design
The Icon model shows three different site representations through material change. The Wood represents the community of people in the area, the steel rods represent the significance of the industrial past of the Junction. Finally, the concrete base represents the overall goal of the project; A unifying hub that would bring the community together, hence all of the rods connecting to it.For the latter concept model, I wanted to expand on the concepts explored with the Icon model, and apply it 3-dimensionally to the site. There is a difference between existing and my proposed construction by using the rotting wood to represent the existing bank building on the corner of the site.

“Incorporating various materials in the model making process in order to convey an idea was crucial in the realization of the thesis project, as it allowed for easy explanation of larger concepts.”

“Fascinated in how material, space, and context, shape how we as people interact with one another in the built environment.”
