02 Discarded Deity
Sculpture
2024
Metal, leather, fabric
18"w x 12"d x 72"h
This sculpture repurposes a discarded wood studio sanding belts and disc, discarded stileto white leather boots into a haunting, moon-like icon. It transforms utilitarian waste into a contemporary relic of an ancient deity. Alternative title, "Missing Tourist".
“"Discarded Deity" The discarded sanding disc, belt and glass became an ancient Aztec headdress. The Deity’s eerie metal face is akin to that of the moon, luminous in colour. A discarded pair of white high fashion boots were trimmed and rearranged on the facemask to create an animal morphic Deity. The stileto heels were arranged across the mouth to look like ancient bones. The zippers from the boots were turned into matching earrings. ”
