The Fastuous Game of Life

The Game of Fastuous is a project that began from studying the word itself, meaning arrogance, and how it operates within the structures of society. As a satire, I developed a board game that comments on how arrogance, in different forms, can move people forward or hold them back, often shaped by privilege and the lack of awareness around it. What some call luck and others call effort is often tied to how one navigates and performs arrogance within these systems.The game was printed and assembled with multiple components, including acrylic painted roulette elements, stacks of fake money, and additional pieces that extend beyond the original structure of The Game of Life. It also features a unique mirrored piece, laser printed with a “Fastuous” certificate, reflecting the player back into the system itself.The project acts as a reflection on the presence of arrogance within all of us, and how it can both construct and destabilize one’s position in society.
