So Devoted The Lines Blur

Painting
2026
Oil and Acrylic on Canvas
24 x 30 in.
A work in Hör zu, ich erzähle dir was / “Listen, I’ll tell you something.” a series of oil paintings depicting a variety of animals specific to stories from the artists’ ancestry across Central Europe.

“So Devoted The Lines Blur is another story of protection from the town of Bremen, Germany. Statues of griffins line the streets outside St. Peter’s Cathedral; for protection and strength, a common virtue wanted within German sculptural displays. I wanted to use this piece as a way to express the impact World War II had on my family history, because I would not be here in Canada today if those global atrocities had not been committed. My composition displays two symbols of protection actively fighting each other as an allegory for the country of Germany fighting and destroying its people for the sake of its ideals. ”
