Love in Cage Amour En Cage

Environmental Design
2023
Inspired by the delicate Poha Berry of Peru, this project explores the inseparable relationship between light and shadow. Known poetically as amour en cage (love in cage,) the fruit’s papery husk serves as a natural vessel for a golden center—a metaphor for the human experience.Drawing from the philosophy that "where there is light, there is shadow," I designed a light fixture that transcends simple utility. By replicating the intricate textures and lines of the berry’s calyx, the piece casts a rhythmic play of shadows across its surroundings. In my process, I explored the "passing of time" through sketches of the berry’s lifecycle, resulting in a fixture that celebrates the beauty of the raw, the ripe, and the shadows they cast.
