Beast of Burden

Painting
2026
Acrylic, oil, and pastel on canvas
40 x 49" (101 x 124 cm)
In Buddhism, "beasts of burden" symbolize both the potential consequences of unethical earning methods and reflect wealth through domesticated animals used for labour, representing the balance between materialism and moral conduct. In this visual representation, the beast of burden reflects on our daily labour of carrying the weight of living on our shoulders. What does it mean to exist and manage those ‘burdens’, and if we can make light of it?
