In 1975, after spending long periods alone in the mountains, Junko Tabei became the first woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest, proving that women could succeed in extreme exploration just as much as men. At a time when women in Japan were discouraged from pursuing mountaineering, her achievement challenged global gender expectations and opened the door for more women to enter adventure sports.
