Televoyance is a multi-media installation. Made with recycled electronic waste, it features three conceptual "televisions" which all convey different aspects of analogue television. With an original 11 min. score, there is plenty of time to consider what draws us in to moving images, and to be mesmerized.
“My work explores hypotheticals behind analogue television. What if humankind continued to pursue this technology instead of digital machines? Through creative reconstruction, this idea is visually explored in ‘TVs’ of different forms. Old technology is always being decommissioned in favour of newer and greater devices, but Televoyance, made from repurposed e-waste, aims to show that newness does not equate to value. The space is dimly lit to draw the eye in, and mesmerizes with the beauty of light and moving images. The meditative soundscape was created using reclaimed e-waste as ‘instruments,’ and accompanies the repeating film shown on all TVs. Both of these were used to create a spiritual and bodily feeling, where viewers are safe to explore their own connection to the screen.Analogue TVs are powerful devices which harness the power of electricity and demand a physical presence with their large size. While much of current media viewing focuses as little on the screen as possible, this piece re-establishes the connection between the image and the screen, and highlights its forgotten beauty.”
