The familial myth upheld by imagery can be destabilized by fabricating a fictionalized version of the family unit. I wanted to explore the destabilization of memory through the degradation of found footage by means of the image transfer process on clear, non-photosensitive 16mm film. In using a 16mm projector, the mechanized and material conditions from which the images emerge are made visible. The film exists as an object, and it becomes unraveled with this form of projection. The cyclical structure of the loop and interaction with the space in which it’s installed transforms the projector and film into a site-specific object.
