The Psyche

Illustration
2025
Acrylic, oil on canvas
15” x 15”
This piece explores the psyche, focusing on the psychological structures by neurologists and psychoanalysts such as Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. Focusing on the concept of the Ego, the Id and the Super Ego, this piece serves as an observation of the mind and its parts. The Ego is represented by the cobra, the Id is the rat snake, and the Super Ego is symbolised by the garter snake. These snakes are contained by a mirror surrounded by fabric, alluding to the phrase "mind over matter", in that the power of the mind is important, influencing the body and the physical world.
