“My work constructs abstract landscapes from fragmented photographs, exploring insomnia and the tension between control, perception, and uncertainty.”

Sophia Kim is a Toronto-based artist completing a degree in Drawing and Painting at the Ontario College of Art & Design University. She is an abstract acrylic painter whose practice explores structural abstraction through collage processes using self-produced photography. Her work investigates perception, memory, and the reconstruction of imagery through layered geometric compositions. By deconstructing and reorganizing photographic fragments, she constructs abstract landscapes that reflect psychological states such as insomnia and heightened awareness, translating tension, uncertainty, and control into visual form.
