Baby Tree, a portrait of my childhood self. An interactive bookshelf constructed with boxes and paper mache.
“Baby tree stands as a bookshelf, play area, and self portrait of my childhood self. Baby tree offers sanctuary to all; especially Trans and Queer youth. Baby Tree is the heart of ‘Dear Charlotte’, the dollhouse of my soul, my inner child; Baby Tree is curious, young, and free. Holding sentimental items, handmade books, photo albums, Baby Tree is a documentation of everything I have ever been, representing everything I have learned, and fundamental parts of my childhood, my love and respect for nature, and an understanding that we are all connected. In many ways my childhood made me feel like a tree, strong against vicious storms, cursed to be stuck in place to endure them all, yet left feeling wise; Baby Tree is only looking for a friend, learn about their stories, and bring them a sense of calm and understanding.”
