Colonial disrupt
“This painting reflects the disruption caused by colonial systems of timekeeping. The four market days, Eke, Orie, Afor, and Nkwo, are portrayed as figures placed beneath mechanical clocks introduced through colonization. Instead of moving together in harmony, the figures argue, showing how the imposition of western temporal knowledge interfered with an existing system that once functioned collectively. ”
