To Love Is To Cherish

Painting
2026
Acrylic paint, turmeric pigments, gold leaf, and mirror tiles on wood
24 x 36 in.
“To Love Is To Cherish” highlights the importance of protecting vulnerable and endangered species and of conserving culture and traditional practices. The artwork features figures dressed in traditional garments and accessories representing each province or administrative region of Pakistan, as they embrace native endangered or vulnerable species. The composition is heavily inspired by traditional Mughal miniature paintings, Islamic art, and architecture, showcasing “Fresco” flower designs found in many mosques and Islamic sites across Pakistan. The gold text at the top reads “حفاظت (hifazat),” meaning “protection” or “safekeeping” in Urdu. Botanicals such as apricot blossoms and landscapes inspired by Fairy Meadows in Gilgit-Baltistan highlight the country’s rich natural scenery. Overall, this piece underscores the importance of protecting what is vulnerable and celebrates nature and culture through love and care.
