“My work depicts a series of abstracted animated embroideries that reflects my sense of diasporic belonging, through digitally combining Palestinian tatreez, and personal images which occupy the fabrics stretched in embroidery hoops. Transnational experiences that depict the loss and celebration of my Palestinian heritage are addressed, while the colonial practice of embroidery also questions woman's prescribed roles. I disseminated these criticalities through embroidered Arabic text and the hijab that acts as the surface for these embroidered narratives.”

I am a Palestinian artist, born in United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 1996 and immigrated to Canada in 2007. I’ve completed my Bachelors of Fine Arts from Ontario College of Art University (OCAD U), majoring in Drawing and Painting, and minoring in Material Arts and Design in 2021. My work has been displayed in shows such as OCAD U’s “Kunstmatrix” 3D exhibition (2021), OCAD U’s online show “Works Under Construction”(2021), OCAD U’s mystery art auction “Made to Love: Our Love Language” (2021), OCAD U’s online show “Sustainable Interventions”(2020), and Propeller Gallery’s “Off The Screen 2020” I address personal aspects of living in diaspora, highlighting themes of displacement, colonialism, identity, and heritage. Focusing on experiences of unsettlement, loss of language and heritage.
